PC to Mini DV transfer

I have a Canon MVX 460 and wondered if it was possible to transfer video's from my computer to the mini dv tapes used in my camcorder (because I heard it was possible to record directly from the tv so I thought it was the same principle).

Sorry i'm not very camcorder competant so i don't know how stupid/obvious this question may be. Thanks.

Re: PC to Mini DV transfer

Yes you can. Your camcorder has DV-input, which is what you need for this. (Note this is different from AV-in, which is what you would use to record from TV.... your camcorder has both).
You need to do this from your editing application, it should have an option to output to tape. Check with your camcorder manual to make sure you set it in the correct mode (generally it is in play mode, not record mode).

Re: PC to Mini DV transfer

You need Firewire to do a full quality digital copy of DV - in either direction.

Re: PC to Mini DV transfer

ok, I have the firewire cable, and know what settings to put my camera onto, however I do not have software needed for the transfer (as the one supplied apparently doesn't do it according to the manual) any ideas?

Re: PC to Mini DV transfer

What OS are you running? If XP then the supplied Windows Movie Maker will allow you to capture and output (I believe - I don't use it myself) DV.

Or another free option (which has a Mac as well as a windows version) is

Or, you can download a free trial of any of the major editing packages - e.g. Sony Vegas (or the more affordable Movie Studio Versions), Adobe Premiere (or the more affordable Premiere Elements), Ulead Video Studio, etc.

Re: PC to Mini DV transfer

im sorry but i still can't do it, i got some of the programmes, but as i'm not used to them, finding out how to transfer the files is hard, is there anywhere where i could find a step by step or general instructions?
