buying camcorder just before christmas - is it daft?

Hi
Thanks again for the replies to my recent post. I think I have narrowed it down to being between the JVC 505 and the Sony HC3 as they both seem to be about the same price. I don't really know much about HD camcorders and had just presumed the newer style HD ones would be better. Also I don't even know if I have the equipment at home to cope with changing the 'tapes' to something I can watch (I'm a bit clueless about it all!).

Amazon are still doing guaranteed express delivery by 1pm tomorrow but I'm a bit worried about rushing into buying something in the lead up to Christmas. It would be nice to have it for Christmas day but it's not essential. Does anyone know if there are good reductions on these type of camcorders in the January sales? Is it better to wait until these may be reduced further or are the current amazon prices generally as low as they go?

Thanks once again, Nicola

I would not expect to see reductions on the web prices for those models immediately after Christmas. You may see reductions of inflated prices in the shops on some models; maybe reduced prices on some discontinued models. Obviously if you need more time to decide don't rush, but I wouldn't worry about finding these models significantly cheaper after Christmas.

Do you think the same applies to the MVX460?
Assuming I can find one in the first place that is !

(Got to decide whether to go and buy one this weekend, or wait til January)

Yes, especially with the MVX460 as it is in short supply. You only see big reductions when there is a lot of stock to sell.
