VHS to DVD? Help please

I have searched before anyone asks!

My parents have lots of old home videos of me when i was young, and i thought i would put them on to DVD for them.
I was just wondering how?
Do i need a capture card and plug in the the video player into the PC and simply let it play and let the pc record it then transfer to DVD?

or is there an easier way?

thanks

Capture card on your PC is one way.
Another way is if you have a digital camcorder with AV-in, you can use that as the capture device. For either of these methods you need software on the PC to author the DVD.

The easiest way to do it is to use a set top DVD recorder, if you have one.

Not a cheap way, but I bought a VHS/DVD RW combo to record a treasured Video. Mine cost £150 from Asda, but I think they are a little cheaper than that now.

so you simply play the VHS and put a blank DVD in and it records?

on another note, does anyone know a decent capture card incase i got that route? i'd just get a used one off ebay.

Yes, the one I bought (by Dual) was very simple to use.

Have a read of This thread. It should help to answer at least some of your questions on analogue capture & editing. Feel free to ask if there is anything more you need to know.

Mark.
