Sony DCR-SR90E

Bought this yesterday and just familiarising myself with the controls/menu etc.
I note that it has a 2.5mm Remote Jack on the R/H side close to the on/off switch.
Cant seem to work out what its for , there is no mention of Lanc protocol and there is an Interface Shoe for Mike/Lights plus a remote control.
All the manual mentions is optional accessories.

Any ideas ?

Re: Sony DCR-SR90E

That is odd. I assume it is LANC, as that is the protocol which Sony created specifically for wired remotes. So it would seem odd to offer a remote jack using something other than LANC. But you are right it doesn’t say it is LANC, which they generally do.

I guess you could go into a shop and ask to try out a LANC control and see if it works…

Re: Sony DCR-SR90E

Yes it is strange , I have a Jessops Lanc Controller that I got for the HC1E but was just a little reluctant to try before I took advice.
Well I"ll give it a go and report back.

Re: Sony DCR-SR90E

Managed to find my Lanc Controller eventually and connected it to the remote socket and it operates as a controller ie , powers down/record stop/start, select manual focus and adjust/zoom.
No mention of Lanc on the socket or in the manual.
Used the camcorder first time today and was impressed with the picture quality comparing it against a JVC HDD MG50 that I had previously. Used it with Sony VCL-HG0737 W/A Lens via step up ring.
Transferred 1hr of footage directly to DVD ( no editing/computer ) and the pq is fine.
Supplied battery lasts almost 2 hrs on direct record.
