HC1E Increases In Value

I was in Jessops this morning and bought a Sony DCR-SR90E HD Camcorder and was amused to note that the display HC1E was marked up at £1617 .
Remember at the beginning of this year when I was looking at the model it was £1399 ( Jessops ).
Eventually got on for £999.

Staff mentioned a new JVC HDD High Def Camcorder soon to be released to compete with the Sony model

£1617! They are having a laugh...

Interesting about JVC HDD High Def Camcorder. Makes sense; JVC were first out with HDD camcorders, and one of the first (if not the first) with High Def camcorders. I wonder what format it will use? I don't think it will be AVCHD as they haven't joined that group. And by definition it isn't HDV, as HDV implies tape as part of the standard. It could use the same MPEG2 encoding as HDV but to HDD instead of tape... or it could be yet-another-codec.

According to this (translation from German)

Obviously JVC uses neitherHDV norAVCHD - the compression format of the new system is still secret.
