Trouble Transferring DV

Hi there,

I have a JVC GR-D290U, purchased in the US.

I am trying to transfer via Firewire preferably or Composite if I must to a UK Spec Liteon DVD+HDD Recorder.

If I use Firewire I get an error message saying unrecognised format, if I use composite I get nasty banding on the bottom of the screen.

I guess this is a side effect of using an NTSC DV Cam and trying convert to UK spec equipment?

How can I do this?

I could use my PC I guess but thats time consuming and I dont want to edit, just transfer.

Cheers,

Steve.

Re: Trouble Transferring DV

Most UK "set top" DVD recorders don't accept NTSC input... and it sounds like yours is one of them.

There are some that do - Pioneer for one generally does I believe. So one option is to replace your DVD recorder with one which will take NTSC input.

Or, as you have suggested, you can capture to a PC, where you can then edit and either create a PAL or NTSC disc.

If not editing it need not be time consuming in as much as the software transcoding DV NTSC to PAL mpeg will take a while: you can always leave it last thing at night and it will be ready in the morning, or in the morning and when you come in later it should be done.

The Costlier ( Canopus Procoder Express.. being phased out ) can do it faster and arguably better before you then just author the DVD in your chosen DVD authoring application.
