Which Camcorder?

We are looking to purchase our first camcorder, just for family stukk etc.

We LOVE the look etc of the JVC Everio range and prefer the MG57 & 77 but they seem to get slated for Pic quality.

We went to Curry's and got the sale guy to connect the MG57 to a 32" LCD to see PQ and it wasn't that bad considering we was using an AV input so would expect slightly better if writtten to DVD

So any advice bearing in mind we do LOVE the look and etc of the Everio range....

Thanks in advance

Tom

Re: Which Camcorder?

Tom,

The PQ isn't bad on those models... the reason they get slated is that it just aren't as good as DV tape models in the same price bracket (e.g. Panasonic GS300, Sony HC96, or even Canon MVX460). And they also aren't as good as the higher end HDD models like the MG505 or the Sony SR90.

But if you like the camcorder and the PQ is satisfactory to you, then go for it.

Re: Which Camcorder?

Thanks Mark, I only wish our budget streched to the MG505 for me that would be IDEAL, the MC500 is just in reach but I think the microdrive thing will be costly for extra drives and really defeats the object of HDD.

WOuld like to pick your brains again if I may you seem to know your stuff.

MG57 has Autolumi light which is not really much use (the one I saw wasn't) BUT the MG77 has a flash but I can't seem to find a clear description if this also acts as a video light or just a stills flash (same as MG505 light/flash)

Re: Which Camcorder?

The flash on the MG77 is a stills flash, not a video light.
