Enhancing Text Vegas Movie Studio

I've created my first video with Sony Vegas MS and I am looking at the Text Events I have between various scenes. So far I have managed to create the text with shadows and various colour options.
I would like to create different effects like flying in and exploding out - indvidual letters floating in etc...

I can creat these effects in my slide editing software ProShow Gold but can't find a way to do it in Vegas. Do I need a plug in or some extra software?

I haven't tried yet but I suppose I could create one in ProShow, create a DVD and import it back into Vegas - seems a long way round for a bit of showmanship!!!!
Thanks
Geff

Certainly not: However you achieve your results is fine and if a little ingenuity using more than one software is it ... good on you!

Like you, I also have Proshow Gold and often import its slideshow Mpegs into DVD authoring software since it only exports mpegs not more easily editable AVI for use within Video editing software. If fact I make DVDs whose material has come from various sources at completely different times

What you are attempting is probably possible in Vegas but when in the past I asked Vegas "experts": I got lost quite early in the explanation (Old age setting in?? )

Vegas does have track motion effects which are " keyframable" : meaning you can customise motion 2d/ 3d behavior fairly well by creating a start and end positions and the program will work out the various "in between"
( apologies if Im preaching to the converted)

As a result of gettin lost half way thru the explanation, I just stuck to using a Ulead program called Cool 3d Studio. which does export TGA file with an alpha mask ( backgroung transparency) or indeed AVI with DV specs ( ie 720 x 576 at 25 fps) for use within a Video Editing Program.

Infact Adobe does all this within its compositing separate program "After Effects"
In that regard I guess Im more familiar with how to do such with AVid Liquid 7 and Cool 3D but Pm me if any of our resident Vegas " experts" doesnt come up with a solution.

This tutorial may hold many gems. Im tempted to do a months subscription myself

Geff, Senu,

Vegas does have track motion effects which are " keyframable" : meaning you can customise motion 2d/ 3d behavior fairly well by creating a start and end positions and the program will work out the various "in between"

Senu is on the mark here. Vegas doesn't have special effects for text per se, but any event can be given motion.

Not sure about the letters "exploding", but here are 3 methods to make your text move around:

1. Use a transition: Note that a transition can be from "nothing" to an event, not just between an event. For example, if you want the text to fly in from the top left, use the Slide transition, select slide-in from top left corner. At the end use another transition (e.g. slide out from bottom right).

2. Use track motion. Here you can make the whole track move around however you like.

3. Use event pan/crop. This is similar to track motion, the difference is track motion works on the whole track, while event pan/crop is on an event basis.

If you want individual letters floating in, each letter would need to be a separate event.

Using a transition is the easiest. Track motion and pan/crop are more powerful, and you will eventually want to get to know them and how to use keyframes... but this is a bit more complex.

I've been watching "Robin Hood" with my family each week, and just last night I was adding text which was flying in fast (with an arrow sound effect) added... if you've seen the new Robin Hood you'll know what I mean. I used the slide transition for this.

Thanks -I got just the result I wanted and it's easy. I created a 3 second fade in fade out on the text Event and used Transitions. The 3D's Fly In/Fly Out give just the result I want followed closley by Page Peel. No indidual letters but the Split and Swap transitions come pretty close. Very pleased. Thanks again

Re: Enhancing Text Vegas Movie Studio

Glad you got it sorted!
I'll have to have a play with split and swap with text to see what it looks like...
