Does ANY Camcorder have a still-capture feature during playback?

Most all of the camcorders I have owned over the years have been able to capture a frame of video (during playback) and record it to removable media (Memory stick, smart media, etc...)

For example I could capture a still image from my kids soccer game video and easily transfer it to my computer and email it to family...

Many of the newer camcorders don't seem to do it...

Does anyone know of a current model that will ?

Your help is very much appreciated..........

I think most Panasonics do - if you use the supplied "Panasonic DV Studio" and a USB cable

Dont think that. You put the still on the card no need for that software or usb

Re: Does ANY Camcorder have a still-capture feature during playback?

If the camrea has a memory card then you dont need anything to just transfer it to your PC just stick the card in a card reader connected to your PC - but these would be still photos and not frames from a video. - I understood that bjm007 wanted to capture a still from his video (presumably on mini DV tape inside the camcorder) while he plays it in his camera and I have used 'DV Studio' to do that on several Panasonic cameras.

One other viable solution for all camcorders bjm007 is to transfer all your video to your PC and then use almost any video editing software to save whatever stills you want from the footage.

Hi Bejaycee.

This is true but the still capture afforded by the 2 editing packages I have (ULVS9 &PSQS9) is not as good as that from Panasonic DV Studio let alone the "Photoshot Mode" via the Panasonic S/W.

Re: Does ANY Camcorder have a still-capture feature during playback?

My Sony HC1 can do this (play the tape, press the photo button and it takes a still saved to the memory stick), though it isn't a current model. The current HC3 can do the same. My old Sony PC9 could do this. The Sony HC44, HC46, HC94, and HC96 can all do this. I think it is still a pretty common function. On the Sony models it's called "Dubbing pictures from a tape to a Memory Stick Duo".

Mark I think '' Over the years is the key to this 'Think he wants to select a shot from the actual video footage which IMHO is never gonna match a still shot taken with an onboard card but may be wrong. The Panny operates the same as yours

Not sure.... the original post said:

Of course the quality of the still won't be as good as if taken directly to the memory card (assuming the camcorder is a MP model). The quality will be only as good as PAL resolution at best. But would be fine for emailing some shots.
