Just ordered Sony DCR-HC24E any comments?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...989030-5707044

Hi, after much deliberation just ordered this one off Amazon for my Girlfriend for christmas. I know its only a toy compared to some but has anyone had any good/bad experiences?

I went with it mainly because it take stills and is better in poor light than some of the other models of the same price range according to a few reviews Ive read. Is this one ok or is there a better one around the 180 mark? I can still cancel......

Thanks

I think you will find it doesn"t take stills.

Right... it will take stills but only to tape, doesn't have a memory card.

Canon MV930 is a nice entry level camcorder with SD card for stills, but it costs around £240 (web price).

If it takes still to tape will she be able to transfer them to the pc and convert them to jpeg with ease? or is that a silly question and theres no chance?

Yes you can, I have the HC35 but don't use it for stills as the quality is not that good.

As an entry level Mini Dv camforder its fine for video. Small and light to hold , the NP90 battery lasts about 5 hrs easily.

Re: Just ordered Sony DCR-HC24E any comments?

Thx, could you point out which one of these batteries will fit, Idont see an NP90.

I thought the batteries would be a lot dearer for some reason, 10-15 quid isnt bad and if the original only last an hour then thats no good.

Thanks, in the compatability list it doesnt list the 24e though, seems to have every other model except that one, will it fit?

Re: Just ordered Sony DCR-HC24E any comments?

Yes I remember it not being listed as well , but its the designated Model No for the camera NP-FP90 .
So took a chance at that price and it worked fine.

Here"s another http://www.edsign.co.uk/product_detail.asp?productID=40

Re: Just ordered Sony DCR-HC24E any comments?

That site doesnt state how long the battery will last, seems a bit cheap for a 5 hour battery, especially as the Sony one is 32 quid.

Is that one on that site the one you purchased? I dont want to be accidently buying another 1 hour jobby.

thanks again
