digital camcorder newbie

Just received a Panasonic NV-GS180 for a birthday present. I'm trying to work out how i play it back through my PW7 plasma(no integral speakers).
Am i correct in thinking that if i want audio and pictures at the same time i have to download the tape from the camera to the pc, burn it on to a dvd then play it through my dvd player. This seems long winded
I have a Yamaha RX-V750 amp, plasma has BNC and VGA connections from the dvd player and sky plus respectively. There is an s video and video connection on the front of the av amp as well as l & r audio.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: digital camcorder newbie

You could connect to your AV amp if it has a video composite cable feeding the Plasma which I doubt, so its down to making DVD's.

Re: digital camcorder newbie

No the plasma only has vgs and component bnc connections. I'd hoped i could somehow link the camera to both the av amp and plasma at the same time.

Thanks anyway Andy

Re: digital camcorder newbie

I'm a bit confused about the "audio and pictures at the same time" statement. The audio is not a problem as you can connect the audio cables from the camcorder to the amp. The problem seems to be that the video outputs from the camcorder are only composite or S-video, and the PW7 doesn't have an input for either of these.

It seem then what you need is a S-video to Component BNC cable....

There are adapters which are S-video to component, like this
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ist&sku=300346
But it isn't BNC...

If you search around maybe such a cable/adapter exists.

Re: digital camcorder newbie

Thanks Mark
There seem to be a few adaptors on the market so i should get something fairly easily.

Cheers

Re: digital camcorder newbie

If you want to connect an S-Video signal to a YUV Component input then you will need more than just a cable as YUV & S-Video are not compatable with each other. You will need to upconvert the video signal to component, which many receivers can do - can yours? If not then you will need to buy a hardware converter and not just a simple cable.
The only way that the above linked cable will work is if the YUV component input on your plasma can be set to accept an S-Video signal.

Mark.

Re: digital camcorder newbie

Mark,

Thanks... you are correct. The link I gave, when I look at it, is specific to a line of projectors, which must support S-video over component connections... but of course this is not the norm.
Sorry for the misinformation on my part.

jtt1888,

It may not help, but I have a PW6, though on mine I have component, RGB Scart, and VGA input. I have a DVD player connected to the component, and a DVD recorder connected to the RGB scart. With this configuration, I was able to connect the camcorder via S-video (or composite) to the DVD recorder, and output to the PW6 (the RGB scart takes S-video).

One solution would be to add an additional port to the PW7, e.g. an S-video one.
