Camcorder to record nightclub lighting

I've been set the task of finding a camcorder that we can use to record nightclub/disco lighting in use.

There is a lot of fast colour/movement/strobing etc going on - and i've found in the past that cameras with auto modes simply can't do it efficiently - and so I need to find a camera that offers a good level of manual control over focus, aperture etc. Line in would be an advantage for the audio.

The format etc really isn't relevant, but we will be copying/editing on PC/mac so I guess firewire/USB is essential.

The footage will end up online, but I accept that this will look better with decent original footage to work with.

Budget isn't fixed - but I'm hope that I don't have to spend more than around £5-700.

If anyone can offer any advice - i'd be most grateful.

Re: Camcorder to record nightclub lighting

Hi,

Panasonic provides the most manual controls in their consumer camcorders. The GS500 is their best 3 CCD, SD, consumer model and fits your budget. Has manual control for zoom levels, shutter speed, focus, white balance, aperture, and gain, etc. The controls aren't quite as nice as the discontinued GS400, but still of current models in that price range it's probably the best.

It's a DV camcorder, so transfer to the PC will be via Firewire.

On the Audio side, it has a mic input. No line in however. (The GS400 did... also video in).

Good price here

Actually looks like you may still be able to get a GS400 here
