Mini DV advice please?
Hi folks,
Apologies if my query is repeating previous threads, but I couldn't seem to reach a verdict on my own!
I am looking for a mini DV cam, £200-£300 price range. It's for indoor use mainly (new baby on the way), but I'd like it to be canny outside too. I also like the idea of widescreen.
I've read about the Canon MV930 and MV960 cams, but I'm concerned about reports that they are noisy, which is recorded and heard on playback.
I read a thread recommending the Canon MVX460-is it worth the extra £100 on the above models? I'll happily pay more if it's worth it!
Finally, would I simply be better off with a Sony?!
Thanks for any help. I've got 18 days to decide!

Thanks alot for the advice. Might plumb for the canon 460 on this review, although I'm still a tad concerned about the noise.
Has anyone else noticed this as a problem?

Re: Mini DV advice please?
I've only seen noise issues reported with the MV series, not the MVX.
Here is a test clip featuring the sound:

The French comments I think says the zoom is quiet, there is some small noise from the tape mechanism when using in quiet atmosphere, but this is not usually noticable.

Re: Mini DV advice please?
Cheers for the links Mark-seriously considering that cam now.
Can you recommend any good (and cheap) editing software for a PC?

Re: Mini DV advice please?
I use and like Sony Vegas. The Platimum edition is the best deal
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...173770-2035815
Others to consider are Premiere Elements, Ulead Video Studio, and Pinnacle Studio. You can download free trials of most of these. It is somewhat a matter of personal taste which suits you best.
The Sony Vegas trial is available here
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/pro...ct.asp?PID=408
You can also purchase as a download from there...

Thanks for the advice once again, Mark.
I'll download the trial and give it a whirl.
Cheers.

Re: Mini DV advice please?
Hi,
just to let you know a bought a canon mvx450 (same as 460 without av in) and the noise recorded is terrible. I bring it back to the shop to change it, but the other one they had in stock was noisy as well. So i get a refund. If you want this camera, test it first in the shop and then at home, and be sure youcan bring it back. It is a pitty because i liked it a lot for all it's features.
