Question Where to begin?

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to dip my toes into the dv ocean and I'd love to have some advice on some worthy camcorders to consider getting started with. My requirements are DV in/out, decent stills ability, definitely a compact model (preferably upright), and in the region of £8 - 900, although I've set £1000 as my absolute upper limit.

I spotted the new Canon MV5i but have seen very little on it on the web or Usenet - has anyone tried this model? Also, have been hearing (mostly) good things about the Sony PC101 - any opinions or alternatives?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
