Question capture not in mpeg

hi all,i,m not really sure how to word this question, but here goes.
when i connect my camcoreder [JVC GR-D70] to my computer to upload my films,i use imagemixer with vcd ver 1.1.
this is the software that came with my cam.
capturing isn't a problem, but each individual section of film i transfer seems to have a file name that reads....cap0001,cap0002...etc.
when itry to import them in windows movie maker,i get an error message saying that.... cap0001.mpg [or whichever number it may be],is not valid because it does not contain any information.
i don't understand this at all.the clips play fine in WMP.
any help always appreciated.

Re: capture not in mpeg

Try capturing with Win DV
Although this will capture as DV AVI it will tell you if there is a capture problem.
Im not sure that the mpegs captured are importable by WMM.
Ps: Maybe WMM is broken?

Re: capture not in mpeg

A PCI firewire card and cable such as this one wont set you back more than £15-20. Unless you want to wait for the new PC

At any rate ,USB for capturing video is not advised. See this thread

Re: capture not in mpeg

thanx for the link senu, just double checking though,it DOES come with a cable aswell,if so,is the cable suitable for my camcorder,(seems to be a 4 pin connection).
i've checked the website, and yes,it does say with 6ft cable,so would the cable be right? thanx again for the speedy replies, much appreciated.
Daz.

Yes , DV ( and digital8) Camcorders universally come with the 4-pin connection ( as do laptops and some desktops: my shuttle desktop has both! )
6 ft seems long but that is no bad thing as is it unlikely to mean slower speeds and means the camcorder doesnt need to sit right on top of the PC.
I have a 6ft belkin cable firewire which cost £25 on its own!
