AV In

I'm trying to help several people setup their camcorders to use a bullet cam (which uses AV-IN). However they've all got different make/models. Some have only AV-OUT, others have found a blanking plate over the switch that switches from OUT to IN, etc., etc.

Is there a definitive list of camcorders which can have AV-IN (either already present, enabled by a removing a blanking plate)? Is there such a thing as a dongle which would convert a camcorder to accept an AV-IN signal, and who makes such a thing?

Kind regards,
Alex

TBH there is no definative answer to the question of enabling AV-in on a camcorder.
Due to newish EU rules camcorder makers have to make sure their new cams can not be enabled or they stand to be charged higher taxes on them as they are rated as being a VCR and not a camcorder.
Many older camcorders can be enabled, but some can only be enabled for DV-in while some others can be enabled for both DV & AV-in (AV-in is required for connecting a bullet cam).
A good site for checking the abbility of your cam to be converted is www.smartdv.co.uk

Thx Mark for reply. I had already spoken to very knowledgeable person in Jessops who informed me I can't do it with my ancient(ish) camcorder. I looked at the site on the link you kindly posted but couldn't work out what I needed.

Well as I think it is stated on the site I linked to - if your camcorder is not listed as being able to be enabled then it can't be done.

Oh well, its a good excuse to get a new camcorder then
