Exclamation Urgent advice please!

I have been offered a new Sony DCR PC120 for £900. Is this good value? Also what should be included with this as standard (any extras/software/spare battery etc)???

Thanks for your advice.

Not a bad price, but obsolete model. Should include as standard a memory card, leads, maybe still image upload interface and software but not much else. Haggle for extras. Especially bigger battery.

Out of passing interest, an entire movie was shot on a couple of these in New York by a bunch of students.

Hope you enjoy it!

PC120

Er... how do you come to the conclusion that the PC120 is obsolete ?
It is basically an upright version of the TRV50 which is really only just out.
If it is obsolete, what replaces it ?

I must admit I also thought the PC120 was the latest model, replacing the PC110.

Also, where is it available at £900 or was that a one off? Most places want £1100+ for it.

Matt.

I got it for £900 though QXL, brand new unboxed, very happy with that.

Just to confirm though, it is the latest model isn't it????

Can someone please confirm this??

Thanks.

I am fed up to hear that some product( Cam, VCR,....even a car) is "absolete"?!.... and/or has been discontinued!?....

It does make me laugh....!....

What a uneducated, "mass-consumer" approach to products.

Just because some Product is discontinued, does Not mean that it is of bad quality, and/or the replacing product is better !!!

This is proved by recently released new line of mini DV cams of one of the major Co.. Notiseably, the build quality is not so good as the "Discontinued " line, more plastiky...

You would be lucky to find one of these "old" ones now,but if you do, it will be at half price and better Quality.

With the strong competition, pressure to reduce profit margins, the manifacturers are forced to implement cost saving designs for their products.....

So, if you can, wait few months and buy the "absolete" PC120 at half price.

Anybody to elaborate ?....

Regards,

PC120

The PC120 is the latest model in the PC100-110-120 line.
I found one site that said that a PC130 might be along in October sometime.
As far as I understand the PC120 is the upright version of the TRV50 which is just out.

So nothere is no replacement for the PC120 at the moment.
The PC9 has been replaced with the PC101 but that's as much as I know.

I agree entirely with AAA

In fact the PC120 is the ''current'' model in the UK but since the wretched manufacturers insist on changing the models annually, simply to make those of us who've just purchased feel agrieved I feel it is worth warning those who go for 'this years model' 10 months through its lifespan. The PC130 will be along very soon so don't pay full whack for a PC120.

Example: Two high street stores assured me vehemently that the Fuji 6900 was not about to be obsoleted - one week before it was and the price dropped by £200. Fortunately, I had done my homework and bought a 'run-out' model Nikon at a huge discount.

DCR-PC120

I couldn't agree more.
I'm very tempted by the PC120 but I'm expecting it to be much cheaper soon with a replacement due as you say.

Have you heard any reviews of the IP55 at all ?

PC120

As I said, I have just brought the PC120 and I have no complaints at all. It is simply excellent!!!

Loads of features, stunning picture quality and great sound.

Only complaint is that it will take a while to understand all its features!!! Go and buy it straight away...

PC120

Hi,

I've only ever held a PC120 in a shop that had a huge padlock on it !So I don't really have a true feeling for it's size.
I expect it to be small enough to be easilly portable. Can you confirm that it is easy to chuck in a pocket or bag ok ?
I'm trying to get the quality V Size comprimise right hence my
uncertainty between the 101 and 120.
At the moment I reckon the 120 is small enough.

The PC120 does indeed fit into your pocket although not a pocket in your jeans!!! It is an ideal size without being too small or big.

It really is a great all round camera.... I can't give it enough praise!!!

I can't agree more with Dubbing Mixer on the "current model" idea.
I've got a PC100 - bought from new that is still a great piece of kit and the envy of all my friends..... it's now 3 years old and I've no need to 'upgrade' it.....
