Smile JVC codes - JVCGR-D340 versus JVCGR-340EK

Hi

I saw the review for the JVC GR-D340 camcorder in the latest issue of Digital video. I have looked on the internet and have come up with various websites listing this code at around about the £280 mark. But I have also found websites listing a JVC GR-D340EK for around about the £180 mark. I can't spot what the differences are. Also, I can't seem to find reviews for the JVCGR-D340. Does anyone know anything about the codes - what they mean, what the differences are and how they might fare? Thanks

Re: JVC codes - JVCGR-D340 versus JVCGR-340EK

The spec for both model numbers is the same.
JVCGR-340: http://www.cameras2u.com/products/de...40EK&refer=frg
JVCGR-340EK:http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/616_318973.html
Unable to find any reviews though.

Re: JVC codes - JVCGR-D340 versus JVCGR-340EK

GR-340EK is the UK model.

With the 2 links in the previous post, they are both the GR-340EK. The first one doesn't say it on the web page, but in the link itself it says PRODUCT=GR340EK.

Sometimes retailers don't give the full model number.

It is also possible you can find an imported model which really isn't "EK".

Anyone seen a review of this? Is it ok for the price? Any glaring flaws? This will be a present for the father-in-law for the usual sort of family stuff - indoor use & holidays and that's about it.

Thanks

Re: JVC codes - JVCGR-D340 versus JVCGR-340EK

I've got a .pdf file with a recent review (came on CD with recent Digital Video Techniques). They rated it as OK (6 out of 10). Their biggest issue seemed to be that having such a large digital zoom with a small single CCD hurts low light performance and video noise.

For copyright reasons I'm sure I can't post a link to it, but I will send you a private message.

In this price range there are a number of camcorders, all the DV ones from the major brands are at least decent.. at the low price range I like the Canon MV 890/930/960 range.. though there are some reports of motor noise. There are also entry level Sony and Panasonic models.
