Which prog best for mpg to avi convert ?

Any recommendions most welcome, I need to find a program to convert my video file (.bup .ifo .vro in DVD_RTAV folder from panasonic EH50) to avi or perhaps wmv to edit it in Adobe Premiere 6.5. Hope this is the right area of the forum to post this as I cant see a more obvious one. The resulting avi must be stable etc and not sure if some progs do a better job than others, or just differences in speed.
Cheers
Merlin

You only need to convert the *.VOB files in the video_ts folder as only they are the "mpeg" video files.
I dont think the DVD_RTAV folder itself contains any video files

TmegEnc xpress or better still (IMHO)Canopus Procoder Express ( amongst others) can convert mpeg to DV AVI fairly fast and retain good quality :
Be aware though that you are going from compressed to much less compressed format so there is a limit on how good the DV quality will be.

As such going from mpeg to wmv is not adviced unless that is to be the final output format

You could try using a "native" mpeg video editor like Womble which though nowhere as comprehensive as Premiere handles mpeg files with mimnim reencoding and removes the need for conversion to AVI
