Where have all the 'upright' c'corders gone?

Hi,

My Canon MV3iMC camcorder has stopped working and the shop say that it is uneconomical to fix (looking at the price that they are now I’m not surprised). I looked at what else was on offer to see what I might buy when it comes to replacing it and noticed that all of the camcorders currently produced are the horizontal sort (landscape) rather than the vertical sort (portrait) (I don’t know what the technical term is for this). I liked the orientation of the MV3 and was looking for something similar.

I had not intended to replace the camcorder for at least 8-12months as I was told at the shop that the reason my machine had broken was due to insufficient use and the electrical components needing using now and again (used it every 3 or so months). There are a couple of MinDV corders currently in the sale section of the retailers that are the vertical orientation. Should I buy one of these whilst they are still available? Why have all the manufactures gone back to the horizontal sort, I found the vertical sort much easier to hold and use.

Also, if anyone has either a working MV3iMC or an MV4iMC that they might want to sell I might be interested as I have quite a lot of kit to go with it and it would be a shame to have to get rid of it all.

Thanks

I put this down to "fashion". At one time upright/vertical models were popular, then for some reason they were not.

The new Canon HD camcorder is a vertical model... so maybe they will make a comeback..
