Canon DC20

I have been thinking of treating the wife to a new camcorder. She has an old Canon Hi8 camera, the size of a house brick and the same weight.

I quite like the look of the Canon DC20 at £389. Is this a good camera or are there allternatives. I could go a bit more, £500 max, but would rather spend that on extras, extra battery etc.

Re: Canon DC20

I recall seeing it getting some pretty decent marks in a magazine. But IMO for £400 you could get yourself a miniDV camcorder that would perform better than this Canon.

A couple of weeks ago there was an anoucement that the Cannon DC range is to be replaced. In your case the DC20 will be with a DC21. You might find referrence to this in the past posts here.
Might be worth waiting to see what that sells at and its spec. and what the DC20 drops to.

Re: Canon DC20

With my bias towards Canon can anyone recommend a miniDV cam then. I had assumed that DVD recorders were better than tape, was I wrong.

Re: Canon DC20

Canon MVX460 is a nice DV camcorder, and is cheaper than the DC20.
