Urgent new cam advice please!

I am going on holiday on Saturday, and have just(!) decided I need a new camcorder.

This obviously doesnt give me as much time as I would like to research a new purchase, but as usual a glance through the AV forums has been very helpful.

I don't really want to spend more than £300, and the only must have is true widescreen output. I would like quite a small machine, but am not that worried if it is miniDV, HDD, DVD etc. I quite fancy the idea of HDD, but by the sound of it I will have to spend a bit more to get a decent camera.

The main recommendations seem to be the Sony HC44, and the Canon 460. Will I go far wrong with either of these at this money?
