Sony digital 8 camcorder problem

I have a sony dcrtrv460 digital 8 camcorder i bought it 2 and a half years ago and up to now its been excellent.
I went on holiday and its developed an intermittent fault, when you look through the view finder or the lcd screen whilst recording the image blurs then goes completely black or becomes distorted with lines all across the screen. This happens when recording to the cassette or the memory stick. Although the play/edit functions work ok.
Is it worth looking into getting it repaired or is a new one the answer many thanks.

Sony DCR-TRV460E

Almost certainly a faulty CCD imager. Try this link for a possible free repair.
