I'm looking at a secondhand Sony TRV65E Hi 8 camcorder. Are they any good, easy to use, and suitable for a beginner?

a digital 8 should give you better picture quality and be easier to edit if you feel you need to move on to more adventurous projects later on minidv would be even better but maybe out of your price range
