How do you transfer still images from SD card to PC?:Canon MV750i

I have a Canon MV750i with an SD card fitted.

I have around 220 still images on the card, a lot of which are of a wedding of a friends we attended in NYC recently.

When I connect the camera up to my PC via Firewire, Windows XP recognises the camera fine and tells me its installed and ready to use.

I have been transferring video footage from tapes easily enough, but when I attempt to transfer the still images from the SD card, it shows me the images, which I can cycle through via the FFWD and REW buttons on the side of the camera, but there doesn't appear to be a way of copying the pictures to the PC?. Right-clicking brings up no option for "Copy" or "Paste" in the context menu of the window that opens.

Short of purchasing a USB SD card reader, is there any way for me to transfer these images to the PC?. A driver or some sort of 3rd party software/application perhaps?. At the moment, the only way I can do it is to hit the "Prt Scr" button and paste as a new image into Paint Shop Pro 8, but this isn't ideal.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Does the camcorder have a USB connection as well? Generally USB is used to copy images off of the memory card, Firewire to copy DV video (of course).

Yep, it has a USB connection, but I dont appear to have a USB cable with the camera?.

Are USB cables sort of universal or are they specific to fit particular cameras?.

If so, I assume my best bet would be to locate a cheap USB card reader?.

Hmm.. I think they are generally standard, though there are a number of standards. I've always used the provided USB cable. I think one like this
http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=3B93
would fit my Sony camcorder (looks the right connection). You'd have to check around to make sure you get the right one.

Hi
I use the Canon MV850i and transfer my stills with the USB cable provided and through the Canon software provided for stills. The cable for mine is the Mini B on one end and the standard USB on the other, which is the same as the one I use for my Canon Ixus 400 stills and is the same as the example posted by redsox_mark. I would suggest that yours would be the same. It should tell you in the back of the manual. Hope this helps

Thanks folks!!!.

Yep, page 148 of the manual confirms the USB cable is of the "mini-b" variety.

Off out to get one just now.

Thanks for your help, appreciate it.
