record from camera onto dvd unit - can i edit?

hello
have a bullet cam that i would like to record into the AV input of a dvd recorder unit (some typical domestic one).
would like to just keep recording for probably an hour, but then would wish to be able to put dvd into computer (premiere 6 editing software) and be able to cut and chop so as to get edited end result.

Q: will recordings from a domestic dvd (via the AV in) be able to be recognised by computer in order to edit??

thanks

Yes - you can take a DVD created by a DVD recorder (as long as it is finalised) - providing the PC drive accepts the disc type (e.g. if you use DVD-RAM discs on the DVD recorder, you need a PC drive which is compatible... many are not. If you use DVD-R discs they are generally compatible with all drives. It doesn't make any difference if the DVD recording came from the AV-in or if it was recorded off TV.

I don't use Premiere 6, but I'm sure it can handle the files. You may have to rename from from .VOB to .mpg. With the software I use (Vegas 6) you can either do that, or there is a command to "import camcorder disc", which works for discs made in a DVD recorder as well.

Im not very sure Premiere 6 Can import Mpeg2 files ( 6.5 can) ( which is what the VOB file in a DVD are ) but certainly its simpler sibling Abobe Premiere Elements can
Even so , any software which does not natively edit mpeg file ( eg AP6.5) has the potential of resulting in poorer quality video if extensively edited due to reencoding several times before the finished product
There are better editors ( if less accomplished than Adobe Premiere ™, for mpeg editing)
