Sony Hi-8 - CCd-TR805E

I haven't used/touched this camcorder for probably about 2 years and its , approx 8 years old (?).
I have just bought the Panasonic DMR-EZ25 to record from the HI8 camera onto dvd's, but the camcorder is dead.
I have tried plugging into the mains adaptor and tried using 2 of the batteries (after recharging them) and still nothing.

Q. could it be the lithium battery needs replacing ? If this were completely dead and would not recharge would that make the camcorder not switch on ?

Any other ideas , anyone ?

as far as I know the lithium battery is only to preserve your settings, so that should not stop the camera working. Check that there is an output from the charger.

well, I thought the same about the charger hence why I charged 2 batteries and tried running the camcorder on each of them, but the whole unit is completely dead - no display (dates/lights) , no nothing.

I was thinking all the settings get power from the lithium battery and beacuse it's gone flat and won't recharge I may have to replace it , hence why it won't switch on with knowing it's basic settings...well, that's my suspicion unless anyone knows different ????

Well, well...Here's an update.

Shops have open this morning and I treked off to the local cmaera/camcoder specialist and bought a new lithium battery. Talking to the guy he thought the camera must be damaged because the lithium batt. only holds the setting and it couldn't be that............Well, how wrong could he be beacuse it the probem was exactly that and my suspicions were completely correct.
