Post Current video project have questions regarding various cameras and other things.

I am trying to film fights at local clubs and want to have it be extremely good quality like seen in UFC and various mainstream boughts on pay per view. My question is what kind of camera looks good like that and how much is it.

I also am wondering what is the best way to get sound in the ring so you can really hear the punches?

For broadcast the cameras used generally cost 10s of thousands of pounds… but that doesn’t mean you can’t get excellent results with a camcorder. One of the Sony HDV cams (e.g. the £2000 FX1, or £3000 Z1) would do an excellent job. If it is being shot for pay per view the lighting will be excellent.. probably better than in a local club – this will impact you more than the choice of camcorder. As for the sound – when on pay-per-view I wouldn’t doubt they have a microphone in (or above?) the ring, which would be ideal. Otherwise you could use a “shotgun” mic. I assume you can’t have the fighters wear a mic…

If the lighting was extremely good would this camera be a good choice: http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/f...&feature_id=01

Yes, it's a good camcorder. It is similar in price to the Sony Z1 I suggested http://www.sonybiz.net/odw/profvideo

These camcorders are out of my league in terms of price, so I'm not knowledgable enough to compare them in any detail. One main difference is the Sony is 1080i while the JVC is 720p. Some people prefer to shoot progressive vs. interlaced. Others argue that they prefer the greater resolution, and also that you can deinterlace 1080i into 720p in post production and it works well.

And one is a JVC and one is a Sony....

If someone has actually tried both hopefully they can comment.
