Seems fairly straightforward...If you put DVD into your drive, click on files, then 'add media' and choose the drive. It worked OK on a DVD which came free with sunday times..mind not sure if its copy protected...

if you have broadband you could download the trial version of AP2 for 30days - its pretty much the full version.. mind its 1.2Gbyte!

Yeah I wouldn't want to do it that way......Remember that premier elements can't natively edit MPEG so it has to re-encode everything....No no you wouldn't want to be doing that....

The latest full version of premier is supposed to be capable of doing that, but my graphics card is not compatible so I cannot try it...

Premiere pro 2 doesnt do it either.

I spent 2 weeks assembling 4 DVDs of wedding video which looked good in preview but didnt cut the mustard on rendering .

Ive learnt to keep it simple with mpeg and use Womble!

Prem elements allows you to edit mpeg footage as mpeg footage. But rerenders it when you go to burn causing loss of quality (Juddery images, poor colour).

Prem pro does not allow mpeg editing but can convert to dv-avi. But you still suffer same quality loss.

Better of using a tool that is meant for mpeg editing, that doesnt needlessly rerender like Womble or Ulead Video studio.

Thanks for that so that means if I import perfectly good footage straight from dvd edit it in elements burn to dvd I will have an inferior copy? Why are they allowed to sell it then noyvery good for their name.I have played around with Ulead movie dreamfactory and that was far too slow and tempremental is Studio any better

Premiere and most editing software was designed with DV in mind... good support for MPEG2 is around (e.g. Womble... I think Ulead Video Studio also smart renders MPEG2), but support for DV is better - this is why I have said that DV is better for editing than MPEG2, at least today.

Ulead VideoStudio 10 + imports straight off DVD, preserves 16:9 aspect ratio and does smart rendering. Highly recommended.
Womble is also good and vey fast, but has less features and needs some manipulating to keep 16:9 correctly.

Regards

Mike
