Canopus ADVC 50

Hi to all

I have a few questions about this card, Having done a bit of research for some weeks now, I've come to the conclusion that this is one of the best quality capture cards there is based upon the reviews i've read, So i have a few questions to ask.

1) Do i need a firewire PCI card for this to work.

2) If so what cable do i need to connect the ADVC 50 to PCI firwire card.

3) Can i use the ADVC 50 to capture from sky tv.

4) Does the ADVC 50 capture in any other format besides DV AVI.

5) What format audio does it capture to (example) 48kHz pcm wav.

6) Can use capture software like iuVCR, VirtualVCR, Virualdub with this card.

I want to make sure i have everything covered, Has i have the tendancy of buying something and finding out it hasen't got what i wanted or i have to end up buying something extra for that specific thing.

Thanks in advance.

I've not used this converter but all the specs say it is 'compatable with any OHCI DV card' and therefore I would think you do need a firewire card.

The ADVC50 has an internal 6 pin firewire connection, so you would need a 6 pin to whatever internal port is on the firewire card.

It will accept any composite or S-Video input, so will work with the output from Sky (but not RGB)

The capture file format is set by the editing software you use and not the ADVC50

Audio Sampling Frequency
> 48kHz/16bit/2ch, 32kHz/12bit/4ch

As long as this software can work with an OHCI capture device then it will work with the ADVC50

All the above info was found Here
Are you aware that the ADVC50 has been discontinued and replaced by the ADVC55 (as stated at the top of the linked page), so you should get a discount if buying the ADVC50 now

Mark.
