Copying to CD r - Windows moviemaker

Soz if this is the wrong forum. I have a problem and wanted to try and sort out. I've "produced" (ha) A 2mb movie for a colleague who is leaving work tommorow. I've cut in Video clips, audio voice over, some music clips etc. (As an aside I found the software really easy and I'm a bitofatit! (AKA a ludite) so the user interfce must be easy...)

Problem comes burning to a version of something that will play on the laptop at work. The version of windows media player is an earlier version of of mine at home and a small sampler I took in and tried at work woundn't play. Any suggeastions?

Also I would like to burn to DVD so he could take a way with him to play on his DVD at home - he hasn't got a computer (bless) would standard Nero do the job?

Best Regards.

Strange

A WMV file should play happily regardless of which version of WMM produced it. Could be you need a latter version of WMP or update codec/s

In burning to cd or DVD you have to decide: Are you just burning video files to a data cd or data dvd? . If this is the case just burn them via nero. They will ( should) be playable on the PC and PC only: This sounds unsuitable for your ( PC less ) friend. He must be one of a kind

If you want to make a video cd or dvd video which can also play on a regular DVD player, you will need at least Nero Vision: part of the nero suite. It is a cut down but capable DVD arthoring program which can be used with WMM to make a DVD or VCD.

In order to make a DVD Video you would have to output your video file from WMM to Nero Vision as a DV AVI: Whilst it may be possible to start with a wmv file , the starting quality will be soo poor that the output via DVD video will not be great so, best avoided

Hmmm.. complicated! The WMM file is saved as I think a file type wmm (or whatever it is (I can't seem to display file extns. these days (Windows Home XP). Anyway, despite the movie playing from within WMM, NeroVision Express SE says it dosen't recognise the file format and I can't get past first base!!

Taking you advice in order I'm using WMM version 5.2 (SP2) - do you think I may simply need a windows update download? [and not sure what a codec is

The copying bit I had thought both - a CDr for the presentation tommorow played though the old laptop / projector at work and onto a DVD (hopefully resonably quality) for him to take away - this is the first time I've tried this - you'll habe to assume nothing!!
