16:9 Wide / True 16:9

I have a Sony DCR-DVD200E camcorder which has a '16:9 wide' mode. But when I look at the video on the pc dvd software it says it is in 4:3 format.

What is the difference between 16:9 wide and true 16:9 widescreen, if any?

Thanks

There seems to be an issue with the way the MPG files are made from the Sony Camera's...I've got the DCR-DVD803e and it creates proper widescreen files, but unfortunately they are flagged as 4:3 so it all looks a bit squashed until it gets corrected either through my TV zoom setting, or by editing the MPEG header to set the flag to PAL 16:9....

Hope this helps....There is detailed instructions on the camcorderinfo website in the Sony DVD forum on how to correct the MPEG header....

Check out the sticky on editing.
BTW, if you use Ulead VS 10 it will import 16:9 correctly. If you use Womble, you can open the file, save it as 16:9, then re-open and edit. Else the fix12c utility works as well.
