See here

One opinion that says the noise is a problem
Best DV capture prodecdure for quality DVD?

In this thread, a post which says theirs is fine
If you own a Canon MV9?? camcorder please read

There are enough comments around about motor noise with this model that I have to believe it is there - but it becomes a matter of opinion as to if it is loud enough to be a problem.

I had the 930 and if you look at case design its very similar to the mv8XX series.

IMO too much going on in too small a space. I tested a canon MVX460 with a fraction of the noise (ie, there but only in really quiet moments). Difference being MVX is alot wider. Also tested a friends mv7XX and there was non either but the casing is larger.

I think canon are trying to fit too much into to small a space at the cost of quality.

The HC46 does not have AV in. It does have DV-in (and of course, DV-out).
It is only the Canon models which I've heard of any motor noise issues, not the Sony.

Nizam, I tested the Sony Hc44 and the Canon mvx460. Neither of which had any noticeable motor noise in normal conditions.

GS27 doesn't have DV or AV in. It is only some Canon models which suffer from motor noise.
I don't know of any reviews.

New "Digital Video Techniques" magazine issue (9) has a group test of budget camcorders. They review the Canon MV890, Panny NV-GS27, JVC GR-D340, and Sony DCR-HC24.

Marks out of 10:

MV890 7
NV-GS27 8
GR-D340 8
DCR-HC24 7

Overall, they liked the JVC best. With the Canon they had issues with the video quality (didn't mention audio). With both the Sony and the Panny they had issues with the zoom and autofocus.
