Question DigiCam advice sought £300 budget, any ideas?

Guys, I've trawled through the threads but still no idea on best buy for a home user. I try not to buy Canon (Service issues) or Sony (proprietary kit nightmare) and wonder what I can get for about £300 new or 2ndhand.

Build quality would be nice, plus a decent PC editing suite and VHS to DVD function. Have I got 3 hopes at this price?

Appreciate your views/recommendations. Andy

Oops, by DigiCam I mean Camcorder...

I don't think you have a hope....

Firstly the software - free bundled editing software is usually not very good. You'd be better forgetting about that and spending the £50 or so it will cost you to get a decent editing package.

Looking at new miniDV cams, from the major names (Canon, Sony, Panasonic, JVC), it is only Canon which has AV-in at this price point. With Sony you can get it but it will be on a higher end model for more £££... and the current Panasonic and JVC models don't have AV-in at all. So if you've ruled out Canon and Sony.....

If you go used, I'm sure you can find something that has AV-in for that price.
