Cool VCR to DVD Camcorder transfer problems

I am trying to copy from a Mitsubishi VCR to a Sony DCR TRV 30 Mini DV camcorder.
I placed the AV line into the Audio/Video Jack on the Camcorder and the Scart end into the Euro AV 1 in/out socket on the VCR
I have set the display to LCD on the Camcorder
According to the instruction book when I press play on the VCR I should see a picture on my Camcorder screen.
I have neither picture or sound

Can anyone help me please

Leslie

I believe that the scart connector supplied by Sony is an output not input. The phono to scart connector provided with my Sony PC9 is definitely output. When I connected the supplied phono directly to my VCR composite output, it worked perfectly.
