Trying to pick my dad up a digital camcorder for his 70th birthday - needs to be in the £200 price range and very simple to use - point, click, shoot, connect to TV for viewing.

Any pointers ?

Every camcorder in that price range can do that - they all can be run in auto mode, and you can hook the camcorder up to a TV. The Sony HC24 at £215 would be one option, or the Panasonic NV-GS27 at £182. (Prices from pricerunner.co.uk). Either would produce good video.

These are miniDV cams. A DVD camcorder has the extra ease of use that you can stick the disc into a DVD player, but these start nearer the £300 mark.
