DCR HC40E Exposure

My HC40E used to give acceptable results in normal indoor room lighting, but has recently started to give me very dark results.

Exposure is in Auto; I cannot find a menu option that might affect the low light capability.

Any thoughts on the problem?

Regards

Apart from using manual exposure (which you have ruled out), the only setting I can think of that would effect the exposure is if you had one of the Program AE settings set, like “Sunset and Moon”. This would result in underexposure.

Or, there is some fault with the light sensor which is controlling the exposure.

It is actually giving good exposure until the light level drops.

Does the cam have a 'neutral density' electronic filter on it? If so then make sure this is off as the filter reduces the amount of light getting into the cam as it is designed to reduce glare etc when recording in very bright areas such as snow etc.
