Analogue in (with DV conversion): Is so you can connect any analogue video source (e.g. tapes from an old camcorder, VHS tapes from your VCR) and the camcorder will take this input and convert it to DV output, which you can edit. Useful if you want to go back and edit some older analogue recordings.
DV in: With DV in, when you have finished an edit, you can create a tape of your edited project, by outputting back to DV tape. Before the days of DVD this was really essential if you wanted to edit, otherwise how would you watch your edited production? With DVD as the output for most editing these days it is less critical, but still a good feature as 1) the DV master will be less compressed and higher quality, and 2) It gives you another backup of your edited project, and on tape (there are some concerns about the lifespan of DVDs).
