Help required please...

I know nothing about camcorders and have only read a little on this forum about them.I wish to purchase a digital camcorder( my hi8 is on its last legs), budget around the £300.Just finished reading about Camcorders that have a passthrough function..that would enable me to get my hi8 tapes onto the computer for burning on dvd.
Can anyone recommend the best one for me to buy.
Only be using it for the usual stuff...holidays,birthdays,crimbo etc.

I just bought a Canon MVX 300i on Ebay, and does just that, and very good indeed. It does not have s-video input tho, only composite.
You need to look for one that has s-video in.

I have just got the new Canon MV960 which does what you need. I found it cheapest on Amazon at £257 but think they may be out of stock for a week or so now.

Camera arrived yesterday - is very small and neat. Not tried the passthrough yet but am in exactly same position as you, want to get my old Hi8 tapes digitised before that camera dies. Cables all supplied with camera except firewire which was another £6 off amazon.
