hello, is there anyway i can capture a stills image from a video clip?

Many software DVD players for the pc can capture images from video. I use DVD X player proffessional. I think you can capture images with windvd full version as well. see http://www.dvd-x-player.com/

Also every video editing programme will allow you to do that - if you have Win XP - you have Windows Moviemaker - that will do it for you - but be prepared - in photographic terms video pictures are quite low resolution so your still may not be the quality you might expect from a digital camera.

With Vegas, set the preview quality to "Best (full)", and click on the little floppy icon to capture any frame.

Also best to change properties to deinterlaced (just for the still capture- change it back to interlaced after still capture)
