Hi,

I have a Thomson VMD2S Camcorder and when I first purchased my PC it detected it as some Panasonic camcorder through a DV Firewire connection and worked fine.

However, everytime I connect my camcorder to my PC now, it automatically detects it as AVC SubUnit and does not recognise or play on any Video Editing programes i.e. Pinaccle Studio 7, and not sure why.

The software with the camcorder does not seem compatible with Windows XP Professional and reinstalling it makes no difference at all, I have searched the web continusly for a Thomson VMD2S XP Driver and can't find one, I am assuming that this may be a driver problem, but have not got a clue what to do now?????

Have you done any editing since XP SP2 was installed (assuming that it is installed)?
If not then you may well have the known problem where SP2 sets the speed of firewire too slow for capture. More details and instructions on how to fix the fault can be found in This thread.
