depends on what you need to do.
If you have any old tapes from say 8mm video or vhs tapes you would like to edit on computer and make dvd's, you need a camera with AV in as well as firewire out and perhaps firewire in or USB in and out.

Cameras to look at
Canon MV**i
Canon MVX**i

I have just bought the Canon MVX330i on ebay for £240 inc del after looking and researching for a month. This has the benefit of 18x optical zoom, av in and out, mic in, and Widescreen recording should you need to rather than 4:3 format.
I would have gone for the Sony HC42 but it is now out of stock and discontinued.
