Red face Connecting Canon mv750i to an iBook

Hi,

I am completely new to the world of DV Camcorders and have just purchased myself a Canon mv750i. I have read the manual but can't seem to see a way of connecting it to my iBook to copy the video I have taken onto the computer. I can find my way round a computer but can't seem to figure this one out. It came with a USB cable but no firewire cable.

I have searched the net and it still hasn't helped. If any one can help me out it would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve

You will unfortunately need to purchase a separate Firewire cable as you have suspected (they only cost a few £, don't know why most cams come without one these days) - this is the only way to guarantee no loss of information when transferring the recordings to the iBook, or a PC for that matter.

If you are planning on using iMovie then you will have no problems, it's very easy to use and recognises virtually all DV camcorders. You have an MV750i so once you have edited the footage you will be able to transfer it back to miniDV tape again as backup - always a good idea even if you burn your edited footage to DVD via the iBook as the MiniDV footage will retain all the original quality whereas the DVD version is compressed, albeit very watchable, plus you may want to re-edit again in the future which can be a pain if all you have is a compressed DVD version.

Have fun

Thanks, a friend has donated a firewire cable and it all seems to be working surprisingly easily!
