Transfering footage from Canon MV500 to PC - Help!

Hello all,

Looking for some help in transfering some footage from my Canon MV500 onto PC.

I am a relative novice on the PC and have now got to the stage where I cannot proceed any further and would appreciate some much needed help.

I have purchased and installed correctly a Firewire port and PCI card for my PC, when I connect the camcorder, windows XP recognises the camcorder and allows me to view footage via "My Computer" and take photos from the moving image.

I have tried "Recording Video using Windows Movie Maker" but this just tells me "device is not responding" and to close other applications that may be using the device, of which there are none.

Sorry if this appears vague or I am missing the obvious, please help...........
