Nero & Windows Movie Maker

Hi guys,

I'm just getting round to transferring my first DV tape to the PC and then to DVD.

Bought myself a firewire card and DVD writer and got Nero 6 OEM Suite.

Captured the footage with firewire to PC no problem but when it comes to editing I'm finding Nero next to useless. My Nero suite came with Vision Express 3.0 which enables me to put captured video's into an order and can do chapters but not a lot else.

Windows Movie Maker (WMM) lets me add titles, overlay sound, mute sound of video all quite basic but probably as much as I need right now.

I have some questions - Do I have a "light" version of Nero or are there more advanced options for editing? I have Nero Vision Express, is there a full blown Nero Vision?

By using WMM am I losing quality before I burn to DVD even if I keep it in .avi format?

So, is it ok to use WMM for editing and Nero for burning to DVD or should I be looking for all in package?

I have done very little editing on my PC. But i save my edited recordings as a DV file again using WMM. Then I use my Nero to make a DVD with menu's. This gives me a very good quality DVD as i rarely make one over an hour long. So they are all at maximum bit rate to fill the DVD.

The "Full" Nero vision comes with the non oem version.
It is rather far more capable than the "express"
I am not sure if for editing it does more than WMM which is actually a good ( if fairly basic) starters editing program . I have really only used it ( nero vision) to knock together a DVD in a hurry but just glancing at its feature set it looks comprehensive.
As an aside, you should not really lose Picture quality with WMM if you capture as DVavi and output as such.
Some people like WMM You can find them here

However If you get hold of Nero 7 , It has the "full " Nero Vision 4.
You will be then be able to compare the editing abilities of the full Nero Vision4 vs WMM2 ( you do have winxpsp2 dont you?). It can certainly output to DVD which WMM can not.

As to your last question. It is ok as YMMV.
As time goes on you may wish for more ( and have to spend more )
