Question JVC camcorder fuses?

Had camcorder out in snow at Christmas, suddenly died on me. Been told it may be fuse and quoted £1.50 for fuse and £80 labour. Does anyone know where I can get a fuse direct and how easy it is to swap?
(Model - GR-D70)
Really grateful for any guidance.

JVC fuse failure

The fuses are tiny...about the size of a grain of sand and are soldered in. I use special soldering equipment and would consider a binocular microscope essential for any circuit work on this small scale. In my opinion it isn't something you should attempt yourself...and there is usually a reason why a fuse fails!

Advice taken!

Thanks for your advice. Do you mend your own as a hobbie or is it a business? I only ask as I would like to get the camcorder mended before my sons birthday and have seen little local micro-electricians advertised.

Thanks again

Faulty JVC GR-D70*

I could probably recommend a reputable company local to you if you give your location, though the price you have been given is probably about right!
I would imagine your camcorder would probably be away for a couple of weeks, so it may be best to have something in reserve for recording your son's birthday.

The fuses that you've been quoted for are known as Circuit Protectors, and as Peter says, are tiny parts that require some skill to fit. Also bear in mind that until they are fitted, it's impossible to know if there are any other faults on the unit. Make sure anyone you use is a JVC Digital ASC.

Estimate of total repair!

As raised - it may not stop at the fuse - so i've found an internet link to 'Digi Service' which advertises free estimates, all I need to do is pay for recorded delivery and they'll let me know the extent of damage. At least this way I'll be able to compare cost of total repair with cost of new camcorder!

Thanks again
Andrew
