Question Any advice to "clean up" VHS to DVD

I have some home videos on VHS. I want to make DVDs of these. I,m considering using me Dvcamcorder to do the conversion, ie VHS to cam via AV input, then firewire from cam to PC. I assume this will work OK.? Any other sugestions?

On PC, is there any way to clean up the signal? Any particular programs good for this?..make it clearer? I realise it won't be "DVD" quality, but maybe improve on contrast/fading from old recordings..

Any advice greatly appreciated

ta

As long as the camcorder does have AV-in (many sold in UK don't ) then this is probably your best option.

A better option may be to get the cleanest possible capture in the first place. To do this you can use an SVHS VCR and therefore use the S-Video connection rather than composite. Also a few of the better JVC SVHS VCR's have a device in them called a time base corrector (TBC) that should help to clean up poor recordings. If you have a good VCR already that does not have a TBC then you can buy a standalone unit, but this is probably more expensive than a new SVHS VCR.

Mark.
