AV In and Microphones...

Being another lucky MVX200i purchaser from last Tuesday (just before they sold out! Phew!) and also being a Novice (i.e. first camcorder) I have a question regarding AV ports. The MVX200i has AV in/out, but no external Mic input. Is it possible to use the 'AV in' as an external Mic input (and I apologise if thats a stupid question)?

two problems there:

1. The av-in only applies to the camcorder when set in player mode, if you are in camera mode you can only record what comes through the lens.

2. Mic level and line level are very different, mic level is typically around 600mv, line is typically 4v, as the camcorder accpets a line signal in AV-In mode the mic level would be inaudible.

In short no.

And it wasn't a silly question, just I'm very very clever.

Very interesting -I always wondered why separate mic inputs are provided. Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick with the inbuilt mic. Cheers.
