Is there such a device?

I have quite a few 8mm video tapes that I need converting to DVD, my old Canon E230 camcorder gave up the ghost a few years ago, I then got onne on Ebay which worked until I went to convert the tapes through my pc.
So now I am a bit reluctant to chance another 2nd hand 8mm camcorder.
Is there such a thing as a device that will just playback the tapes, I don't want a camcorder, I just want to be able to output what is on the tapes through my pc, is there such a device?

cheers

I had this problem a couple of years ago and could find nothing on the market to do the job. Ended up borrowing a friends 8mm camcorder and tranferring to DVD useing a mini DV camcorder with feed through.

Sony do a couple of 8mm video players , - but a Sony digital8 camcorder is cheaper ! - ( I have two - a DCR-TRV828e and a DCR-TRV238 - both can play video8 , High8 , and Digital8 footage out down the digital firewire ( ie they convert the analogue footage to digital.) ) - happy hunting !

As stated Sony do make a couple of video8/Hi8 video decks, but they are far more expensive even second hand than a brand new Hi8 camcorder. I would aslo advise you to look for a Sony Digital8 camcorder that can replay the old analogue tapes, but make sure you get one that will play them as only a few D8 models do.
