Cables required for camcorder to pc

I'm looking at what I require to transfer the video from my Sony HC90E camcorder onto my laptop. I'm guessing that it would be the DV cable, but before I go and splash out on one, can someone give me the right info and does anyone know where I can get hold of one cheaper than Sony themselves?

Firewire is the way to go, I think.
I have used http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/ and found them very helpful in the past.
Good luck.

Hi, just bought a sony DCR-HC19E mini dv camcorder and reading the instruction manual it seems to recommend a firewire cable for digital transfer. I ordered one from www.directusbstore.co.uk yesterday at 11am. It arrived today at 10.30am. It cost £4.50 inc p&p and looks like descent quality, although I havent tried it yet.
Clyde.

Check that your PC has a firewire (aka iLink, DV port, ieee1394) port on it. If not then you can get a firewire card to plug onto the motherboard for under £20 and this should include the cable. If you already have firewire then as already mentioned you can get just the cable for under £10. It is recommended that the cable be a max length of 1.8m
If it is for a desktop PC then you need a 4 pin (cam end) to 6 pin (PC end) cable, or on a laptop it will be 4 pin both ends, but other than that any cable will do the job.

Mark.
